Why “Torukoishi”?

I’m fascinated by the beauty of the blue-green colour called turquoise. The word turquoise comes from the French for “Turkish”, as the gem of the same name was originally imported from Turkey.

In many cultures, ancient or modern, this gemstone has been highly valued for thousands of years as a holy stone or a talisman, which is believed to bring good fortune. Turquoise is a stone of well-being. It contains protective properties that help ward off negative energy with the purity of natural elements such as water and air.

For me personally the colour turquoise means peace and tranquillity. Whenever I’m stressed out or overwhelmed with the pace of the world around me, I imagine sitting on a beach watching the sea with this beautiful turquoise colour, feeling grateful to Mother Nature for everything she provides us with. My stress goes away and this method works every time.

I’m also interested in learning foreign languages. While I was studying Japanese, I found out that in Japanese it’s called “torukoishi”, which sounds like “türk işi”, meaning “Turkish style” in Turkish. In a nutshell, “torukoishi” is a wordplay, which conjures up a lot of positive images. This is how I ended up choosing this word as my web page and my business name.
